Kodak Gold 400 on Yashica Electro 35 GT (2019)

Updated: Nov 4

Kodak Gold 400 is a versatile, consumer-grade color negative film that strikes an excellent balance between speed and signature aesthetics. While the current primary consumer 400 ISO film from Kodak is Ultramax, the historic Kodak Gold 400 (a legacy name also applied to some versions of Ultramax) is fundamentally known for offering a slightly faster alternative to Gold 200, allowing for more flexibility in mixed or low-light situations. It retains the classic warm, yellow/gold color palette of the Gold line, which contributes a nostalgic or "vintage" feel to images, often accompanied by rich saturation and good skin tone reproduction with a warm bias. As a consumer film, its grain is generally acceptable but more noticeable than professional stocks, making it a reliable and affordable choice for snapshots and everyday shooting.
