Jalan Kubor Cemetery

The road aptly named Jalan Kubor means Cemetary Road in Malay. This street was named after the old Malay cemetery on the grounds of the Aljunied Islamic School. The area in right next to Kampong Glam.

The Malay cemetary grounds is split into three: one side houses the graves of a few members of the royal family; on another plot directly opposite the royal mound are the graves of common people, which have been forgotten by many people, that came under the care of the Aljunied family; and the third plot, was reserved for Indian Muslims which later became popular with Bugis and Banjar merchants. (The most notable non-royal person to be buried in the cemetery would be Haji Ambok Sooloh bin Haji Omar - a successful Bugis businessman and an active figure in the Muslim community.)

Though the cemetery has been earmarked for development by the government, it is a sensitive issue given that the graveyard has historial significance especially for the Malay community.

It was knows as Huan a thiong cheng be liau in Hokkien, which means "the stable in front of the Malay cemetery".
